SmartSensor HD provides up to 22-lanes (250 feet of range) of per vehicle speeds, vehicle counts, average speed, 85th percentile speed, occupancy and more. Each SmartSensor HD has two high-definition radar beams that replicate a speed trap for every lane on both sides of the highway, replacing at least two loops per lane; HD is also able to determine direction of travel, vital for applications such as reversible lanes and wrong-way detection. The reference to high-definition radar is critical to understanding the need for quality data. SmartSensor HD operates at 245 MHz with five times the bandwidth of other sensors to produce clearer radar images for pinpoint accuracy. Sensors operating at lower bandwidths do not offer the range resolution to accurately detect individual vehicles.
